Frequently Asked Questions About CrossFit & Boot Camp
Q – Do You Make Losing Weight & Getting Fit Fun?
Q – What Do You Mean by “CrossFit” & “Boot Camp”?
The Maker’s Body CrossFit is not one of those military-style programs that new recruits endure when they join the army. In fact, we aren’t military style at all.
We are simply the motivation, the camaraderie, the accountability, the community
and the results of a military program but without the screaming and yelling.
Also, when we refer to “crossfit and boot camp”, we mean constantly varied, functional movements performed at high intensity.
What we don’t mean is being aggressive or demeaning in any way. We will push you, but never through intimidation. As we get to know our members, we learn what type of encouragement each individual prefers and try our best to cater to that.
For some, that may be a pat on the shoulder, for others that may mean a little tough love. Our group classes are 60 minutes of the most effective strength, cardio and core combinations possible — in fact we use interval-type training that is scientifically proven to be the most effective type of exercise for losing body fat and building lean muscle.
Q – I have Never Worked Out Before and/or I Have Injuries and/or I Am Extremely Overweight. Can I Still Join this Program?
Yes. The Maker’s Body specializes in providing challenging workouts for people at any level…at the same time. We can have a 65 year old with arthritic joints and a 21 year old college volleyball athlete with 10% body fat working out in the same group and both be challenged at their own level.
You can be underweight, overweight, or obese, had surgery, etc., it doesn’t matter as long as your doctor has OK-ed you to exercise, you can participate.
All of our WODs (Workout of the Day) are scaled and modified to each member’s fitness level and ability and are performed at the highest intensity that the individual feels comfortable with and can sustain with good form and proper technique.
One of the main reasons we differ from other fitness programs out there is so we are able to cater to you as an individual and don’t just have one set workout for everyone. Instead we show modifications, progressions, regressions/scaling, and low and high impact options so that every single person can workout to his or her own fitness level and ability.
In fact, all of our classes use the “No one feels left behind” formula. We know that all of our crossfitters are at different fitness levels and different stages of reaching their long-term goals. That is why we cater every workout — every single exercise to the INDIVIDUAL. We assure you that NO ONE is left behind and nobody will be under trained either. We guarantee it..
Q – How Long is Each Class?
Each class/session lasts 60 minutes.
Q – What is the Class Format?
We approximately have a 5-10 minute introduction where we go over the entire workout and exercises we’ll be performing.
A 5-10 minute warm-up/mobility where we get your muscles and joints warm and mobile and prepared for what’s ahead.
Then 40-45 minutes of strength and conditioning.
And we end with a 5 minute stretch/cool down.
Q – What Exactly Does a Typical Class Look Like? What Do You Do?
A typical class combines strength, cardio, flexibility, stability, and core training
all in one 60 minute class.
We use the “magic formula” of constantly varied, functional movements performed at high intensity. This is what our experience and the latest research and science tells us is the most effective and efficient way to workout for getting fit, healthy, building muscle and losing fat.
In any given day we may use barbells, dumbbells, kettlebells, bands, sandbags, sledgehammers, tires, or your own bodyweight. The classes are always being varied and you may also find theme days such team challenges or partner workouts to constantly keep your body guessing and prevent you from getting bored.
It’s so important that you enjoy working out, because let’s face it, if you don’t you’ll avoid it.
Q – What Should I Bring to My FREE Trial and Regular Classes?
- Yourself ready to participate
- A full water bottle
- Optional: A sweat towel

There are over 30 classes available for you to pick from every week.
Q – Who Will Be Leading Classes, Coaching and Encouraging Me?
You will be coach and encouraged by The Maker’s Body Team which you can meet by clicking here.
Q – What Should I Wear?
Wear comfortable, soft, breathable materials. Also wear sneakers with good support
laces (not velcro) and soles that are low to the ground (no platform-like soles).
Q – Do You Recommend Training Daily?
No. Maximum benefits are derived from intensity and recovery. We offer a complete health and fitness program, and so we recommend that you take time to recover so that you can perform your best at every class. This will prevent injury and backsliding from over training. You’ll be surprised to learn that the volume of training doesn’t reflect your fitness or progression.
We do want to see members coming in on a regular basis though. At a minimum, we want you in 3 days a week and then as you get fitter you can come in 4 or 5 days per week. Your success matters to us, and the only way to achieve that is if you come in.
We recommend training no more than two days in a row. Training more frequently tends to lead to overtraining, not so much at the level of the muscle cell but at the nervous system level. In other words, it is hard to train at the high levels of intensity required to recruit high-threshold motor units when training more than two days in a row.
Q – What are the Class Times of the Program?
As soon as you register you will have access to our 12 Foundations classes which need to be completed before joining our regular classes. We have over 30 regular classes available each week. We know that life isn’t always predictable, and that is why you don’t have to commit to any one time slot. When I say full access, you can go to the 11:30am class one day, 5:00pm class the next day and the 7:00pm class later in the week. You can go when it best fits your schedule.
Q – Will I Learn About Nutrition?
Yes. Any good fitness professional knows that true fitness is achieved by not only great workouts, but also great nutrition. We here at The Maker’s Body know that all too well as we have had our nutrition system help clients achieve MUCH better results when they implement the it with their workouts as opposed to just the workouts on their own. We will do an assessment and nutrition consultation with you to figure out your goals and find the plan that works best for you and that will help you reach AND maintain your goals. You will also get biweekly follow up meetings at no charge to see how you are doing, see what changes have occurred and then make any adjustments that are necessary to keep you moving towards your goals so you don’t plateau.

Q – Why Can’t I Just Cut My Calories and Do Some Cardio?
The ONLY way to lose body fat (without losing lots of muscle), increase your metabolism, and avoid those dreaded plateaus is to do some sort of resistance or weight training. Don’t worry ladies, it’s a myth that lifting weights will cause you to get big and bulky.
Adding lean muscle and losing body fat is the only way to achieve lasting fat loss. Muscle is more metabolically active than fat! Not to mention that muscle takes up a heck of a lot less room on your body. It’s about 2-3X smaller than fat and more dense therefore lets say you lose 5 pounds of fat and gain 5 pounds of muscle, in turn you’ll look like you lost 10-20 pounds.
Sure, cardio exercise burns calories, but it is not enough stimulus to gain muscle. You actually lose muscle and SLOW DOWN your metabolism if you just do cardio. That’s why it is so easy to gain back the weight after you get off your “diet and cardio exercise” program. Most other programs KILL your metabolism.
At The Maker’s Body, we combine interval-based resistance training and interval-based cardio (which is proven to be more effective for fat loss and efficient for your time than long, slow distance cardio) for the ultimate formula for burning body fat AND raising your metabolism. Now you can eat the foods you love (too a certain extent 😉 because you will be burning more and more calories every single day!

Q – Why Shouldn’t I Just Join a Gym for $25-100 Per Month? Wouldn’t That Do the Trick?
We know that you have endless amounts of options to choose from to lose weight, get in shape, and get healthy, but it is a lot easier said than done. Recent studies have shown that 65% of people that join a gym stop going within the first 30 days of joining, and 89% stop going within the first 90 days. That same study concluded that weight-loss seekers that had some sort of social support and accountability lost 50% more body fat than the test group that attempted to lose the weight on their own.
Losing weight and getting in shape is about motivation, accountability, AND knowing the right system and strategy to reach your goals. It’s also about establishing an entire lifestyle change. The Maker’s Body is not a quick-fix program — it is a complete and comprehensive lifestyle program that incorporates strength, cardio, core, nutrition, accountability, willpower, education, motivation, and social support. It’s a no-fail way to lose unwanted body fat and build muscle so you have more energy to play with your kids, be able to walk into a store and fit into the clothes you want, feel as confident and happy as you like or whatever it is you desire. Period.
